The small community of Seven Hills was originally part of a tract of land give to the colony of Connecticut by King Charles II of England in the Charter of 1662. After the Revolutionary War, the Connecticut Land Comapny divided the land into townships and one of these townships was named Independence Township.
Garfield Heights and Vally View were detached from the township and the remaining area was maintained as a township until 1927 when the Village of Seven Hills was incorporated.
Seven Hills is now a chartered city with a mayor and seven council members, four representing wards and three at-large. The population of Seven Hills, according to the 200 census, was 12,080 people living in 4,787 households. Seven Hills has one fire station with a part-time force of approximatly 35 fire-fighters. The police department has 15 full-time officers and patrolmen and sixcrossing guards. The department als o has 12 part-time patrolmen.
